Shawn of the Dead
Zombies! I love zombies! The whole eating brains thing, wondering about going Uurrrrrrrggghh. It’s great.
If you like zombies and comedy then you’ll like this.
Billed as a Zom-Rom-Com, anyone who’s seen the cult Channel 4 series “Spaced” will know what to expect.
Simon Pegg stars as Shaun, a hapless electrical goods shop worker, living with his lay-about flatmate and recently dumped by his girlfriend. Things can’t get much worse. That is of course until the dead start rising from the grave. Soon, zombies are all over the place and it’s left to Shaun and his flatmate to save the day.
Managing to boldly straddle the comedy and horror genres with apparent ease, the film delivers on all levels. The somewhat typical zombie scenario is given greater depth by the inventive writing and set pieces. You genuinely feel affection for the characters and are rooting for them to escape alive.
Will Shaun survive unscathed? Will he save his friends and win back the girl? Or will the zombies get the better of him?
Featuring great special effects, real scares and very very funny dialog, this is a film that deserves your attention.
