Right at your Door

Written and Directed by Chris Gorak

New home owners Brad and Lexi are setting up house in Los Angles when several “dirty bombs” are detonated. Lexi’s already left for work but house husband Brad is safe in his home and starts sealing the doors and windows to prevent exposure. Everything’s going swimmingly, till Lexi turns up covered in dirty bomb dust. Will Brad let her in? Would you?

This is the question posed in Chris Gorak’s low budget thriller / horror. What would you do in this situation? Let in the love or your life and face almost certain death, or look out for number one and stay safe inside? It’s an interesting premise to pin your directorial debut on and Chris Gorak does a good job of building the tension and keeping it going throughout the film. Only towards the end does it feel like he’s running out of steam, but then the final act  twist really sends shivers down the spin.

Mary McCormak and Rory Cochrane are very workman like in their portrayal of the main characters Lexi and Brad. This is not a slight on them, as the film benefits from the slightly awkward conversations between the two leads. It would, after all, be a somewhat unnerving experience to be placed in and the script never falls into the needless sentimentality, many other “real life event” style films tend to suffer.

On the whole, while this film isn’t perfect and at times seems to drag a little, the ending is very effective and really brings home the horror of the situation.

An all to real and credible account of what could very well one day be an actual event.
