Munich

Written by Tony Kushner& Eric Roth. Based on George Jonas book. Directed by Steven Speilberg.

The story of the retribution carried out by the Israeli government against those accused of planning the massacre at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Eric Banna is recruited to find and assassinate the 11 members of Black September charged with planning of this attack. Concentrating on his characters journey from idealistic soldier to burnt out assassin.  A masterful tale told with real power, yet one that can never be accused of showing off or lectern thumping.

The film poses the ultimate question, did any of the subsequent killings do anything to stop or curtail the terrorists?  The final shot of the film driving home the point that this question is as relevant today as it was in the 1970’s.

An effecting and wonderfully acted film, truly thought provoking in a way that many of today films are incapable of achieving. With so many standout scenes, this is going to keep the bar room critics in banter material for ages.
From War of the Worlds to Munich, Spielberg shows why he’s considered one of the greatest directors of all time.
