Tom Cruise, love him or hate him, he’s certainly in a lot of movies.
Mission Impossible 1 & 2 were pretty poor, substituting story for formulaic big action fare. So, it comes as a bit of surprise that this one is really rather good.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, of TV series Lost fame, Tom is reined in and gives a pretty decent performance as Ethan Hunt, undercover super spy.
The gadgets are cool, the action electric and the story keeps you guessing in all the right places. So good, in fact, is the plot that the movie never explains what all the fuss is about, (something to do with a Rabbits Foot, believe us, it doesn’t’ matter!).
It’s slick, action packed rubbish of the first order and by far the best of the series.
The only draw back is a rather lacklustre finale, which doesn’t quite deliver on the fun and frivolities of the first acts.
That being said, it’s certainly miles better than we were expecting and greatly superior to the first two films. And, without a doubt, it’s got the best, and possibly most disturbing, “bomb in the head” scene we’ve seen for quite a while. Good stuff!
