Hostel

Eli Roth hit our screens in 2002 with over rated slock horror Cabin Fever. Little more than a movie student end of year film, it went on to clean up at the box office.

So here comes film number two (technically 3 if you count “The Rotten Fruit” and don’t count TV series “Chowdaheads”), from the self styled master of “Horror Porn”.

Hostel is better than Cabin Fever, it looks better, it’s better acted and Roth has clearly got better at directing. Saying that, the end result is still a disappointment.

The premise is quite intriguing and amusingly executed but the film only amounts to an over hyped B movie; which, when all is said and done, I guess is exactly what it’s supposed to be.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is some sort of stomach churning slash fest. For an 18 cert, there’s actually surprisingly little in the way of blood and guts on show here.

Yet with Hostel 2 currently in production and due for release in 2007, there definitely seems to be a market for more of the same.

Enjoyable but not the life changing, throwing up in the cinema type experience we were wanting.
