Anyone who watched Open Water will know what to expect here. Except this time it’s six people that jump off a yacht and forget to put the ladder down, so we’re stranded with them for an hour and half while they try and make it back onboard.
Yet while Open Water was a real waste of your time and money, Adrfit is certainly a step up. Billed as Open Water 2 pretty much everywhere else apart from the UK, you can see that the publishers have firmly nailed their colours to the mast (sorry, couldn’t help it).
Yet comparisons with Open Water are largely unfair, as Adrift is a superior movie on every level. That being said, it’s still not a great movie. As soon as you see “Based on a True Story” scroll across the screen, you know it’s not going to end well for all involved. And sure enough, by the time the credits role, the original 6 have been somewhat thinned out . The script suffers from the usual clangers, some of the acting is borderline laughable and the film ends on what can only be described as a confusing note.If this thing sounds up your street, then good on you, for films of it’s type, it’s better than most but then, that’s not saying much.
